Features of the Farmi Winches

.) The clutch control rope runs through a swivel on top of the winch. The winch can therefore be operated from any direction. This is an important feature for the operator as he can control the winch form a position where he can see the load as it is being pulled in.  Good vision will enable the operator to prevent loads from hooking up behind stumps and roots and can also reduce damage to the remaining trees.
The clutch control rope also enhances operator safety and production. Without leaving the tractor seat, one can release the load, drive out of adverse conditions and winch the load in again. When winching from the tractor seat, one must have a protective screen installed between the winch and the operator. The clutch enables the operator to select any pull from zero to maximum pull of the winch. The clutch will slip when the load is heavier than the select pull. This prevents damage to the cable or winch even if the load gets hooked behind a stump or root.

.)  The JL 501 winch has a stand for a chainsaw. Chainsaws equipped with a standard plastic bar guard can be transported in this easily accessible place. This is important to the operator because the chainsaw is usually transported next to the tractor's clutch or brake pedals where it is in the way and might vibrate off the tractor.

.)  The wire rope has a steel core and stays flexible even with use. The wire rope is fastened to the winch drum on the outside so the fastening will not cause hookups or tangle inside the drum.

.)  The upper pulley has a shield which prevents the cable sliders from jamming into the pulley.

.)  The winch mechanism is totally enclosed. It is covered not only from the back, but is also covered and protected from all sides. This totally enclosed design reduces the risk of ice formation on the winch mechanism. If water gets in, it will drain out from the drains on the frame.

.)  Most Farmi winches have coiling device. The coiling device promotes even coiling of the cable and reduces risk for tangle and backlash. The coiling device is standard on all Farmi winch models except the JL 290 model.

.)  Four logs can be winched in at one time. The three sturdy keyhole sliders have slots large enough to take 5/16" choker chains. The hook on the end of the cable car also take a chain. The keyhole sliders will also automatically release the Farmi TP 14 self-releasing snatch block.

.)  Two sturdy brackets for transporting skidding grapples, snatch blocks and chains.  Many winches also have provisions for tool boxes.

.)  "Iron grip" cable clamps hold the cable well without damaging the cable. The clamps are reusable so the operator can do cable repairs on the job. The clamps are round to prevent them from getting hooked onto branches.

.)  The upper pulley has a large diameter and a groove for the cable. This prevents flattening of the cable thus extending cable life. The pulley guides the cable to the center of the coiler no matter from which side the load is being pulled. For safety reasons (risk of tipping) pulls over 30 degrees to the side must be avoided.

.)  The Farmi winch frames are designed for maximum winching capacity and maximum skidding capacity. This is accomplished through the high frame, two pulleys and by keeping the weight close to the tractor.
The high pulling point pushes the winch against the ground when winching. The tractor will not slide backward. The high pulling point also lifts on the load allowing it to float over obstacles.
After the logs are winched in, one slips the cable under the lower snatch block for skidding the load out. The lower snatch block lowers the point of pull so one can pull out much larger loads. The thin winch frame keeps the weight close to the tractor.

.)  The JL501 and JL 601 models have a lower snatch block which enables adjusting of the skidding height. This provides for optimum weight transfer, which increases the traction of the rear wheels.

.)  The lower snatch block is in the center of the winch and provides a hinge point for the logs so they skid out easy. Most Farmi winches have provisions to skid out four logs per cable hitch. Additional logs can be skidded out by dropping the skid chains into the notches of the notched beam. At least six additional stems can be hooked up to the notched beam.

.)  The clutch pads are over 3/8" thick and riveted to the heavy disk. The clutch is warrantied for five years. The exceptional warranty period reflects the quality of the products and shows our commitment to supply contractors with durable machinery. A new clutch can be riveted on the old sprocket so the clutch is easy and inexpensive to replace. The sturdy upper sprocket acts as a heat sink and absorbs the heat generated in the clutch when winching, preventing the clutch from burning out.

.)  The winch has a parking stand so it is easy to hook up or drop off the 3-point hitch.

.)  Clutch adjustment, brake adjustment, replacing the cable and all other service can be done without any disassembly of the winch. Repair of the winch is also very easy because the entire winch mechanism can be removed in one piece after removal of six easily accessible bolts.

.)  The Farmi winches have a one-year parts warranty (cable and PTO shaft excluded).

.)  Tractors used for logging must be equipped with a ROPS cab and front end weights.
